Non-EEA nationals whose governments do have a working holiday agreement have the choice between:

  • being a full time non-EEA student or
  • apply for a Working Holiday Authorisation (WHA) (see details below)

The WHA visa allows young US citizens to:

  • travel and work in Ireland or
  • progress in their chosen careers through employment in Ireland that is related to their degree and  / or professional experience.

Non-EEA nationals whose governments do have a working holiday agreement have the choice between:

Non-EEA nationals whose governments do not have a working holiday agreement with Ireland, need to be enrolled in an English language or non-Degree Program course, registered in the Internationalisation Register. Also, this program is not specifically designed for au pair jobs, but it is as well a possibility for the future au pair.

A list of all non-EU countries whose passport holders do not require a visa to enter Ireland being enrolled in an English language or non-Degree Program course, registered in the Internationalisation Register can be found in the "Guidelines for Language and Non-Degree Program Students" in Ireland, issued 01 January 2011 provided by the Citizens Information Board.

There is no official au pair program in Ireland. Still, Ireland is open to young people all around the world. However, there are different rules for EU/EEA/CH nationals vs. the rest of the world.
