Devenir un au pair / une famille d'accueil

What would you advice me?

This is my first time being an au pair but I have experience as a nanny. These 2 are different things since you'll have to travel as an au pair. What do you advice a first timer like me?

Dear Abir,

I had a look at your profile and I really like the way you introduce yourself and write about the reasons why you want to become an au pair!

Yes, travelling or rather living in another country and immersing yourself into the culture and language of the host country is definitely a very important part of being an au pair and a big difference to just looking after kids in your neighbourhood :-)

As you're looking for new impulses and time for reflection to find out what you really want in life , this aspect of being away from home and getting to know something new and different makes au pairing a very good choice for you!

I'd advice you to carefully think about which country, lanuguage and culture you'd like to get to know better. In case you can't go to this country because you don't speak the language yet, rather take the time to attend a language course (for A1-level an online course e.g. from Babbel will do) and don't just pick a country because it's possible for you to go there.

Many au pairs stay in the host country after the end of their au pair year - mostly doing an apprenticeship or studying at university, some fall in love and stay there forever. :-) So being an au pair might really become a life-changing decision for you and deciding which host country you go to might be a decision about where you're going to life for a much longer time than your au pair year takes...

Best regards,
